Dividends are calculated using the Daily Balance method and paid monthly. Lōkahi FCU membership is required to open and maintain a Cash+ Checking account. An account closing fee applies to any account closed within ninety (90) days of opening. Please refer to our Membership Agreement and Fee Schedule for complete details. To receive cash back, all monthly qualification requirements must be met. The monthly qualification cycle is defined as the monthly statement cycle, which runs from the 1st of the month through the last day of the month, based on Hawaii Standard Time (HST). If qualifications are met, you may earn 3% cash back on total debit card purchases that are posted and settled to your account during the cycle, up to a maximum of $10.00 per month. Only transactions that have fully posted and settled — meaning they are no longer pending — are eligible. Transactions must be posted and settled by 11:59 p.m. HST on the last day of the month to count toward that month’s qualifications. Please note that merchant processing delays may affect when transactions post and settle, which may impact your eligibility for cash back.

If the qualification requirements are not met for a given month, no cash back will be earned for that period. Cash back will not be earned in the month the account is closed or if the account is not in good standing. If the account is closed before dividends are credited, accrued dividends will not be paid. Fees may reduce earnings on the account.

Cash+ Checking FAQ

Can I open both a Rate+ and Cash+ Checking Account?

We’re glad you’re interested in our rewards accounts! Members are limited to one rewards checking account, so you’ll need to choose either Rate+, Cash+, or Kūpuna Checking.

Can I have more than one checking account?

Yes! Members may open multiple checking accounts. However, reward checking accounts are limited to one per member. For example, you may have a Standard Checking and a Cash+ Checking, but not a have Rate+, Cash+, or Kūpuna Checking open at the same time.

If I make a debit card purchase on the last day of the month, will it count toward my 15 monthly transactions?

It depends. The transaction has to post and settle by the end of the month to count. Since some merchants—like Amazon—don’t process payments right away, we recommend making your qualifying purchases a few days earlier just to be safe.

What counts as a Direct Deposit?

Direct Deposits include recurring electronic payments from employers, government agencies, or other sources that deposit directly into your account.

Do Direct Deposits need to go into my checking account to count toward monthly qualifications?

Yes. To qualify, the Direct Deposit must go into your Cash+ account to count towards your qualifications to earn cash back. 

If I change my checking account type and already have Direct Deposit, eStatements, and 15 debit card transactions in that month, do I automatically qualify for Cash Back for that month?

Yes. If you've already met all the monthly qualifications at the time you change your checking account type, you'll automatically receive the higher cash back for that month. No further action needed. 

For example, if you switch to Cash+ Checking on the 20th of the month and have already:

  • Received a qualifying Direct Deposit into your account,
  • Enrolled in eStatements, and
  • Had 15 or more debit card transactions post and settle,

you'll qualify for cash back for that month.

If I switch Reward Checking account types mid-month and have met all qualifications, will I receive the rewards from both? 

We appreciate your engagement with our rewards programs! If you switch between reward checking accounts during the month, you’ll receive the reward for the account you’re switching to. This means the reward from your previous account will no longer apply, even if you met its qualifications earlier in the month.

For example, let's say you start the month with a Cash+ Checking account and meet all the qualifications by the 15th. On the 20th, you switch to Rate+ Checking. Even though you qualified for cash back under Cash+ Checking earlier in the month, you'll receive the higher dividend rate of Rate+ Checking for that month. The cash back for Cash+ Check will not be paid out under this scenario. 

What happens if I don't meet the qualifications to earn cash back?

No problem—you just won’t earn cash back for that month, but everything else with your account stays the same. The good news is, you can always qualify again next month, so it’s easy to get back on track!

If I don’t meet the monthly qualifications, can my activity roll over to the next month?

Each month’s qualifications are evaluated independently, so activity doesn’t roll over. We recommend reviewing your progress regularly to stay on track! 

Can I get more than 20 free checks per year?

If you need more than 20 checks annually, you’re welcome to purchase a standard box of checks.

How do I order more checks?

You can order checks through online banking, by calling us at 808.423.1391, or by visiting a branch.

If I open more than one checking account, can I receive more than one premium gift?

We appreciate your enthusiasm! To ensure fairness, we limit premium gifts to one per member. If you have questions about available gifts, feel free to reach out.
