 Celebrating Hawaiʻi’s Stories:
Lōkahi FCU Proudly Sponsors
Holoholo with Jolanie

Holoholo With Jolanie

At Lōkahi Federal Credit Union, supporting our local community and celebrating the stories that make Hawaiʻi special is a part of who we are. That’s why we are proud to sponsor the Holoholo with Jolanie series featured on Hawaii News Now.

Holoholo with Jolanie, hosted by the ever-enthusiastic Jolanie Martinez, takes viewers on a journey across the islands—spotlighting the local businesses, organizations, and individuals that shape life in Hawaiʻi. Through heartfelt storytelling and authentic connections, each segment reflects the true spirit of lōkahi: unity, harmony, and togetherness, bringing communities closer and celebrating what makes Hawaiʻi unique.

As a locally rooted not-for-profit financial institution, Lōkahi FCU believes in uplifting the communities we serve. Our sponsorship of Holoholo with Jolanie reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting local voices and strengthening connections. By partnering with Hawaii News Now, we’re able to help shine a spotlight on those who make Hawaiʻi such a special place to call home.

Made with Care for Kapiʻolani

Our Marketing Department at our CMN Miracle Marketplace booth

After our record-breaking 2025 Children’s Miracle Network campaign, Lōkahi Federal Credit Union is proud to continue supporting Kapiʻolani Medical Center and the families it serves. Last year, our community helped make a real impact through special fundraising items, including our exclusive Lōkahi FCU and Hawaiʻi Pacific Health, Kapiʻolani, CMN Slowtide towels, and Buddah Mochi Kids bags. Mahalo to everyone who participated and helped make it our strongest campaign yet.

Building on that momentum, Hawaiʻi Pacific Health invited Lōkahi FCU to help bring a brand-new fundraiser item to life: their custom-designed 2026 all-partners fundraising graphic tee. Our Marketing Specialist, Alohi Tolentino, collaborated with the HPH team over a two-month period to understand their vision and translate it into a design created specifically for this cause. Alohi hand-drew the original artwork and digitized it for production, helping ensure the final shirt feels meaningful, local, and is something people would be proud to wear in their everyday lives.

Keep an eye out for the new fundraiser T-shirt at upcoming events and activations, and join us in continuing to support Children’s Miracle Network at Kapiʻolani.

Lōkahi FCU is Proud to Support
Initiatives That Empower Hawaiʻi’s Youth

LifeSmarts Competition

Lōkahi Federal Credit Union staff recently had the opportunity to support financial education initiatives across Hawaiʻi, participating in both the Hawaiʻi LifeSmarts State Competition and the Financial Reality Fair at Leilehua High School.

Hosted by the Hawaiʻi Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA), the LifeSmarts State Competition challenges students from local public and private high schools on their knowledge of personal finance, health and safety, the environment, and consumer rights and responsibilities. Teams were met with a broad range of questions and topics and competed through a “speed smarts” activity and buzzer-style game show rounds.

Congratulations to ʻIolani School, which will represent Hawaiʻi at the National LifeSmarts Competition in Orlando, Florida.

Financial Reality Fair

Lōkahi FCU staff also participated in the Financial Reality Fair at Leilehua High School, a fun, hands-on, interactive learning event designed to help high school juniors and seniors build real-life money management skills.

Students worked through real-world financial scenarios that taught budgeting skills and encouraged smart money decisions.

Lōkahi FCU is proud to support programs that empower Hawaiʻi’s students with the knowledge and skills needed for lifelong financial success.

During our 89th Annual Meeting, we awarded our 2025 Employee of the Year to Melissa Cordner, Marketing Specialist.

For more than 19 years, Melissa has strengthened our credit union through behind-the-scenes work that supports teams across the organization and helps keep our information accurate and consistent. Often relied on as an unofficial historian, she brings context, careful attention to detail, and steady follow-through to the projects that move us forward. Her work reflects Lōkahi in action, a spirit of unity and harmony as we work together toward a shared goal.

Slam the Scam: Stay Alert, Stay Protected

Every year, scammers become more sophisticated, using convincing messages, spoofed phone numbers, and urgent requests to trick people into giving up money or personal information. Slam the Scam is a nationwide awareness campaign that encourages everyone to recognize scams, stop before responding, and report fraudulent activity.

What Is “Slam the Scam”?

“Slam the Scam” is an initiative led by consumer protection agencies to educate the public about common scam tactics, especially those involving phishing, impersonation, and financial fraud. The goal is simple: empower people to pause, verify, and protect themselves and their organizations.

Common Scam Tactics to Watch For

Scammers often rely on pressure and fear. Be cautious if someone:

  • Creates urgency (“Act now or your account will be locked”)
  • Pretends to be a trusted organization, executive, or government agency
  • Requests sensitive information such as passwords, banking details, or verification codes
  • Asks for payment through gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency
  • Contacts you unexpectedly by email, text, or phone

These attempts may look legitimate at first glance, but a closer inspection often reveals red flags such as unfamiliar sender addresses, spelling errors, or unusual requests.

How You Can Slam the Scam

You can play an important role in stopping scams by following these best practices:

  • Pause before you click or reply. Urgency is a common warning sign.
  • Verify requests independently. Contact the sender through a trusted, known channel.
  • Protect your personal information. Never share passwords or financial details via email or text.
  • Report suspicious messages. Reporting scams helps protect others.

Why It Matters

Scams don’t just affect individuals; they can also impact entire organizations through financial losses, data breaches, and reputational damage. Awareness is one of the strongest defenses. By staying informed and sharing knowledge, we can reduce the success of scams and protect our community.

Remember, if something feels off, trust your instincts. Stop. Verify. Report. Together, we can Slam the Scam.
